Preparation of sheet metal with traces of corrosion:
Surfaces to be painted should be degreased with water from AKSIKOR Washing and Degreasing Preparation (as recommended in the Technical Data Sheet of AKSIKOR Washing and Degreasing Preparation) using a foam gun or by hand. Then wash (preferably with a pressure washer) and rinse with water and dry.
Corrosion marks should be mechanically cleaned to clean metal (grade St2 the surface must not contain dust or poorly adhering scale particles, rust, paint residues). Do not damage the zinc coating. Dust off thoroughly.
Then the cleaned corrosion areas should be painted with anticorrosive primer AKSIKOR PODKŁAD in commercial form according to the recommendations included in the AKSIKOR PODKŁAD technical sheet.
Paint AKSIKOR should be applied on AKSIKOR PODKŁAD solvent-based after 24 hours, and on AKSIKOR PODKŁAD water-based after 5 hours.
Preparation for renovation of old coatings:
Paint surfaces from old chlorinated rubber and polyvinyl coatings should be degreased with water from AKSIKOR WASHING AND DRYING PREPARATE (as recommended in the Technical Data Sheet of AKSIKOR WASHING AND DRYING PREPARATE) using a foam gun or manual methods. Then wash (preferably with a high-pressure cleaner with a rotary nozzle) and rinse with water and dry.
Re-check for flaking of the old coating after washing and drying.
Remove flaky coatings with a wire brush, spatula or scraper or with an electric grinder with care (do not damage the zinc coating).
Solidly bonded coatings should be matted, e.g. with sandpaper or fleece, before painting. It is advantageous to matt the entire old coating in order to remove the oxidised coating. Dust the surface afterwards.
Note: AKSIKOR paint painted over old, peeling paint will not improve its adhesion to the substrate and will not inhibit the peeling process.
Preparing galvanised sheet metal without traces of corrosion:
New galvanised surfaces can be painted after air drying for at least 1 year. Remove corrosion products from zinc (white tarnish) using nylon brushes or a non-woven cloth with an abrasive inserted, soaked in a 5% ammonia solution. The surfaces to be painted should be degreased with water and AKSIKOR Washing and Degreasing Preparation (as recommended in the Technical Data Sheet of AKSIKOR Washing and Degreasing Preparation) using a foam gun or by hand. Then wash (preferably with a pressure washer) and rinse with water and dry.
Preparation of coated sheets:
Use the u0022Roofing Sheet Renovation Systemu0022: AKSIKOR WASHING AND DRYING PREPARATE + AKSIKOR solvent-based primer + AKSIKOR.
Please note that coated sheets where their manufacturer does not allow painting are not suitable for painting. Similarly, freshly coated sheets that have not been exposed to the weather (exposure must have lasted for at least 2 years) should not be painted.
Smooth, glossy surfaces should be matted before painting, e.g. with sandpaper or fleece. The surfaces to be painted should be degreased with water and AKSIKOR Washing and Degreasing Agent (as recommended in the Technical Data Sheet of AKSIKOR Washing and Degreasing Agent) using a foam gun or by hand. Then wash (preferably with a high-pressure cleaner with a rotary nozzle) and rinse with water and dry.
In areas where corrosion has occurred (after it has been mechanically removed in the manner described above for sheets with traces of corrosion), apply AKSIKOR PRECASTER solvent-based primer in commercial form. Apply AKSIKOR PODKOR solvent-based primer in diluted form to the remaining surface. Use carbamide thinner for dilution. The dilution should be chosen so that the primer does not run off the roof - possible dilution: 3 parts primer and 1 part thinner.
Apply AKSIKOR paint over AKSIKOR solvent-based primer after 24 hours.
It is recommended to do a test painting on a small field (approx. 1 sq m).
Adequate preparation of the substrate before painting is important to obtain the full properties of the coating.
Painting:
Before use, mix the paint thoroughly in the container.
AKSIKOR should be applied by brush, roller or spray. It is recommended to apply 2-3 coats. The next coat should be applied after approx. 1-2 hours
Note: When painting with AKSIKOR in a light colour on a substrate with an intensive dark colour, it may be necessary to apply 3 layers of paint.
Recommended parameters for hydrodynamic spraying:
- nozzle diameter 0.013-0.019 inch e.g. nozzle 513
- spraying pressure approx. 175-200 bar
- spraying angle 20 - 50 degrees
For spraying we recommend Wagner, WIVA and Kremlin guns.
Product from different production batches should be poured into one collecting container and thoroughly mixed with each other.
Paint work should be carried out at air and substrate temperatures from +10oC to +30oC and relative humidity of air up to 80%. The temperature of the substrate should be at least 3oC above the dew point. Carry out painting work in suitable atmospheric conditions (no fog, rain, snow). Work should be planned accordingly in hot weather.
Wash tools with water.
