Steps for applying paint to concrete
Substrate preparation:
The substrate should be seasoned, strong, free of dust, oil stains, grease and peeling coats of old paints and free of dirt. The substrate should be dry with no visible signs of moisture or darkening caused by moisture.
Surfaces should be pressure washed with detergent, rinsed and dried before painting.
Mechanically trowelled concrete and smooth, dense surfaces should first be roughened by mechanical grinding, sandblasting or chemically using acid etching to ensure good adhesion and remove cement laitance.
Absorbent, loosely bound, loose substrates are recommended to be impregnated with AKSILUX.
Mouldy, moss- and algae-infested areas should be mechanically cleaned and disinfected with, for example, Aksil's GRZYBOBÓJCA.
Painting:
Mix the paint before painting. For the first painting, dilute the paint with water in the ratio 3:1 (3 parts of paint : 1 part of water), or 2:1 (2 parts of paint to 1 part of water) in case of a very dense substrate. Perform the second painting with undiluted paint, apply 2-3 coats. Apply the next coat after about 1 hour. At lower ambient temperatures, the drying time of the coating should be prolonged.
Apply the paint with a brush, roller or spray (pneumatic or hydrodynamic and hydrodynamic with air shield).
Recommended parameters for hydrodynamic spraying (WAGNER gun):
- nozzle diameter 0.013-0.019 inches, e.g., nozzle 513
- spray pressure approx. 175-200 bar
- spray angle 20-50 degrees
Thick coatings up to 400 microns wet can also be applied.
For spraying, we recommend Wagner, WIVA and Kremlin units.
Use water to wash the painting tools.
All painting work should be carried out at an ambient temperature of +50C to +300C and preferably at 20 ± 5°C and a relative humidity of up to 60%.
The freshly made coating should be protected from rain and frost.
Practical applications that concrete paint has
Concrete outdoors is a generally used durable and relatively inexpensive material. It is used versatilely for fences, walkways, decorations, facades. The aforementioned surfaces tarnish over time, crumble, become overgrown with moss or algae. To improve the aesthetics of a given surface, it is advisable to repaint it. AKSILBET concrete paint not only gives an aesthetically pleasing appearance, but also creates a protective coating that will serve for years to come as protection for concrete surfaces outdoors, where atmospheric factors can strongly affect it.
AKSILBET concrete paints come in 3 unique metallic shades, so painting sculptures, decorations, monuments gives them a fresh and original image. On the other hand, basic colors such as ash, white, black or red will be perfect for utility and fencing elements. For vivid colors and visual effects, we have also introduced blue, green, yellow colors. To tone down a given surface, we can also use paint for concrete in shades of sand, brick, brown or copper.
