Application

EKO-DUR FARBA is intended for:

  • painting concrete floors inside buildings; it forms a colorful semi-matte coating on the painted substrate that is easy to keep clean.
  • painting floors exposed to mechanical and chemical loads, i.e. for painting floors in production halls, warehouses, garages, workshops, where pedestrian and vehicular traffic takes place (applies to forklifts with rubber wheels)
  • Performing horizontal and vertical markings on traffic routes
  • EKO-DUR FARBA in combination with sand forms an anti-slip self-leveling screed
  • surfaces exposed to abrasion due to continuous movement of the chair in the same place (swivel chairs on plastic wheels) should be protected with a mat designed for this purpose
  • vertical surfaces of ceramic tiles indoors (bathroom, kitchen)
  • make horizontal and vertical markings on traffic routes
  • EKO-DUR FARBA in combination with sand creates highly anti-slip coatings
  • EKO-DUR FARBA in combination with decorative flakes creates anti-slip, aesthetic surfaces

Efficiency: 0.2 kg of paint per 1 m2 (with 1 kg of paint - 5 m2)

Expert advice

Substrate Preparation:

The concrete floor to be painted should be seasoned, dry and clean. Permissible moisture content of the substrate 4% - moisture content in most cases obtained after 28 days of concrete seasoning ( at 20°C).

Grease and oil stains are best removed by burning or washing with a suitable agent.

Mechanically trowelled concrete and smooth, compact surfaces should first be roughened to ensure good adhesion of the coating. This can be done by mechanical grinding. This improves adhesion and also removes dirt and cement polish.

In the case of old concrete, loosely bonded concrete fragments should be removed and cavities filled. Then it is beneficial to sand the surface.

It is advantageous to impregnate the old concrete with the paint prepared for use by mixing component A and B as described below, and then diluted with water in the ratio: 1 part paint : 1 part water. Approximately 6 hours after impregnation, the paint can be painted twice as described below.

In certain cases, you can use EKO-DUR PODKATE.

When painting concrete floor previously painted or impregnated with unknown products, remove old paint coatings, clean the floor from the impregnant.

Note: The product is designed for concrete surfaces. Do not apply to the surface obtained from floor screeds intended for tiles, floor coverings.

Ceramic tiles should be thoroughly degreased with commercially available degreasing agents, and in bathrooms remove all scale and mold deposits. Grout should be cleaned with a rough sponge or brush. Silicone joints should be completely removed before applying paint. Paint twice without thinning. Apply to vertical surfaces.

Product preparation and application:

Before painting, mix component A thoroughly in the package and then combine with component B (mixing ratio - component A: component B - 5:1 by weight). Mix the paint thoroughly and wait about 5 minutes.

For the first painting, dilute the paint with water in an amount of 10-20%.

The life of the product after mixing is 1.5 hours in the case of the amount of the mixture up to 1kg+0.2kg and in the case of mixing the whole set of 10kg + 2kg - 2 hours. After 3 hours, the paint is not suitable for use.

If the mixture thickens after 1.5-2 hours, you can add another portion of freshly made A+B mixture and mix.

Note: Do not exceed the mixture life time !

Apply the paint prepared in this way with a brush, roller or spray. It is best to use velour rollers with short bristles. Apply the paint twice. Apply the next coat after 24 hours. Thickness of application of one layer about 120 µm wet. Complete curing occurs after 7 days at 20 ± 2°C and then you can start operation. Time may change with changes in temperature , air humidity, ventilation conditions, number of layers.

Wash tools with water, preferably with vinegar.

NOTE: temperature and humidity values can significantly affect the course of drying in the winter months. Please observe the following recommendations:

  1. Painting work should be carried out at an ambient temperature of not less than 150C, preferably at 20 ± 50C.
  2. The product in the packaging should be brought to an ambient temperature of not less than 150C
  3. Permissible humidity of the air up to 65%. Do not use at high humidity. Air humidity can be checked with a moisture meter, for example, at home weather stations or applications.
  4. The temperature of the substrate should be at least 30C higher than the dew point temperature

Do not allow the difference between the air temperature above the floor and the floor itself to be too high - the temperatures should be similar, because if the floor is significantly cooler than the air above it, moisture will condense from the air on the floor, i.e. on the drying paint or varnish coating, which may cause the coating to become milky.

Note: In case of large surfaces with original dark color, when painting with bright intensive colors (e.g. yellow RAL 1023), such a surface should be previously painted once with EKO-DUR paint in white color (the paint should be diluted with water by ca. 20%) and then twice with the target undiluted paint, e.g. yellow RAL 1023. Such priming provides better hiding power for paints in intensive colors.

Larger surfaces covered with EKO-DUR yellow RAL 1023 paint should be protected with EKO-DUR lacquer. This does not apply to line painting with RAL 1023 yellow.

Use of sand: In order to obtain an anti-slip floor, sand with a granulation of 0.1 - 0.5 mm can be used. To make such a floor can be done in two ways:

Sprinkle sand in the amount of 5-7 % (calculated on the amount of paint for the 1st layer) after the first, still wet layer of paint and spread it evenly with a velour roller. Allow to dry. Then grind the unbound sand and paint the second coat.

Add 5% sand to component A and then mix with component B. Apply such prepared mixture to the floor with a velour roller and spread it evenly. Leave it to dry. Then grind the unbound sand and paint the second layer. Amount of sand: 10-14 g of sand is needed for 1 sqm.

Sprinkling with flakes: For an even more decorative floor, decorative flakes can be sprinkled on the second wet layer. The flakes are sprinkled using the method of throwing them high up. Allow to dry. Then sweep the unbound flakes and protect with EKO-DUR LAKIER epoxy varnish, preferably twice. Amount of flakes: 5 g of flakes are needed for 1 sqm; 2 bags of 100 g are enough for 40 sqm of floor.

Wash tools with water preferably with vinegar.

If you purchase two or more packages of paint of the same color from different production batches, pour the paints into a larger container and mix (there may be differences in the shade and gloss of a given color between batches).
